At Coast Christian Fellowship, we are passionate about seeing people

ENCOUNTER GOD

FLOURISH IN LIFE

GROW IN INFLUENCE

- Pastor Joe Gil

Who is Coast Christian Fellowship?

Since 1923 Coast Christian Fellowship has been a launching pad for world changers. With roots planted deep in the rich soil of revival, we have seen ministries and leaders emerge from this place equipped and empowered to take the message of Jesus Christ to all the ends of the earth.

We are a church family passionate about experiencing God. We believe God is to be known, Jesus is to be celebrated, and the Holy Spirit is meant to be encountered. When we gather together, we come with the expectation that we will experience God and see heaven released on the earth.

We are a church family dedicated to personal transformation. We desire to see each person experience inner healing as they grow in discipleship and are prepared to serve in the mission field God has placed them in.

We are a church family rooted in missions. Whether domestic or international, missions is at the foundation of our identity. We are not a church for “just sitting in the pews!” We are a mission base where people come to discover their destiny, be equipped with ministry tools, and sent out to their place of influence.

Our Story

The history of Coast Christian Fellowship (Coast)  extends back to 1920 when a group began meeting at the corner of Regent and Market Street in Inglewood, CA.  The large lettering, "Pentecostal Mission", could be seen on the huge front glass of what was once the Inglewood Water Company. Over time, the  congregation grew and eventually moved to Olive Street in 1922.  In 1923, the Full Gospel Assembly of Inglewood was officially incorporated by Pastor Elton Hill.

During this transition, the church sent out their first missionary, Miss Eva Bloom, to China. This missionary was the first of many missionaries who would come Coast with divine call to minister to the nations.  During this timeframe, Coast became associated the newly formed Assemblies of God denomination which is currently the world's largest Pentecostal denomination.

Over the next 50 years, the church continued to grow and send out missionaries across the globe. One notable missionary, Louis Richards, answered the divine call to become a missionary at an older age which was very uncommon at that time. While serving in Pusan, South Korea, he met a young dying Buddhist man named Yonggi Cho. Louis led Yonggi Cho to Jesus who was miraculously healed. Louis discipled Cho for many years and Cho eventually started leading  a small tent church that over time became the largest church in the world - Yoido Full Gospel Church.

Another notable world changer with connections to Coast is the founder of YWAM, Loren Cunningham. In the late 50's, Loren served as Youth and Associate Pastor. During this time, God gave Loren a vision of "young people-kids really-going out as missionaries". YWAM is now the largest missionary training and sending organizations in the world. The church  went through a series of transitions, which eventually brought the community to Torrance, CA where Wilbur Wacker became the Senior Pastor in 1974. The name was also changed to Calvary Church of the Coastlands. For many years the church thrived and in 1978 established Coast Christian School, which continues to be a premiere Christian school in the South Bay to this day. (It is now operating under the name “Valor Christian Academy.”)

In 2003, Calvary Church of the Coastlands merged with Torrance Christian Fellowship and Guy Takashima became the new Senior Pastor. That same year, a new name for the church was established…Coast Christian Fellowship or “Coast” for short.

The transitions and merges within the church have established a rich history while also connecting several generations, cultures and denominations in the process with the hope of creating a multifaceted church family equipped to serve the surrounding communities. In 2017, Pastor Guy Takashima stepped down from 25 years of ministry to enter into the marketplace. Pastor Joe  Gil who had been serving as an Associate Pastor at Coast since 2004 was elected as Coast’s new Senior Pastor and commissioned on Pentecost Sunday, June 4th, 2017.

Pastor Joe’s heart has always been to strengthen families and to reach the greater Los Angeles region as well as the nations of the Earth. He is passionate about equipping the Body of Christ in hearing the voice of God, being transformed by the ministry of the Spirit found in Isaiah 61 and being empowered to bring transformation to every sphere of influence.

Coast is a member of several networks including; Assemblies of God, Harvest International Ministries, and Transformation of the Nations.

Our Statement of Faith

BECOMING MORE AWARE OF OUR UNION WITH GOD

We believe that our faith is much more than a cognitive understanding of the idea of a Creator. We are open to experiencing God deeply on a daily basis. Nothing in our lives is off limits to the influence of a personal God who is involved into our world. It only takes eyes to see what God is up to. We also believe that a genuine encounter with God results in a higher level of love for people resulting in unity. This love compels us to step outside our personal sphere and reach the world with the Love of God.

There is only one true God who is the external King, Creator, and Redeemer of all that is. He is the originator and expression of all love, truth and justice. He has revealed Himself to be eternally self-existent—one being in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

The Lord Jesus Christ, the one and only Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin, Mary, and is God’s Anointed One, empowered by the Holy Spirit to inaugurate God’s Kingdom on earth. Motivated by love, he was crucified for our sins, died and was buried, resurrected, and ascended into heaven. He is now alive today, in the presence of God the Father while also living in His people through the Holy Spirit. Jesus is fully God and fully man.

The Bible is the inspired, exclusively infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is the foundation for all teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Humankind was created in the image of God to know and enjoy Him, yet we willfully rejected His Lordship. Because of this, sickness, death and judgment entered the world and now creation experiences the effects and consequences of sin.

Through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross we are saved by God’s grace by faith alone. Anyone can be restored to fellowship with God through repentance, believing and receiving Jesus as his or her Savior and Lord.

The victorious, redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides freedom from the power of the enemy, sin, lies, sickness, and torment.

The Holy Spirit lives in every believer, revealing to them the love of God, sanctifying them with power and enabling them to live righteously and minister supernaturally. The Holy Spirit convicts, restores, justifies, and adopts us as children of God. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is poured out on believers—today as in the Bible—to empower them to become witnesses of the Gospel.

The Church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He gave them two ordinances as directed by the Scriptures—Water Baptism, the public demonstration of faith in Jesus Christ and Holy Communion, the remembering of the sacrifice of Christ until His second coming.  The Church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ and further advance His Kingdom. All Christians are called to reverse the works of the enemy, preach and live the good news of God’s love, and make disciples of all nations by baptizing and teaching them to love and obey God.

Jesus Christ will return to the Earth in bodily form to gather His Bride, the victorious and overcoming Church.  At His second coming, all people will be judged. The saved will inherit everlasting life and enter into the Kingdom of God. And those who rejected the work of the cross will be condemned to everlasting death outside of God’s presence.
